How do we move forward in a Trump presidency?
As I think of this question and how to write about it, I freeze. I begin to question these next 4 years and wonder what could happen. I often revisit in my mind the moment on Nov. 4, 2024, when the world watched a convicted felon become president.
Donald Trump’s second presidency, which began in January 2025, has deepened the political divide in America and left many Americans feeling terrified about the country’s future. His administration has pushed for harsher immigration crackdowns, expanded restrictions on federal agencies, and intensified efforts to reshape the justice system, alarming those who see these moves as threats to civil rights and democratic norms. Trump’s return to social media, with frequent attacks on critics and the press, has fueled anxiety about misinformation and rising political violence. Many Americans, especially immigrants, LGBTQ+ individuals, and people of color, feel fearful about the rollback of protections and the normalization of an extremist agenda, leading to protests and legal challenges across the country.
A question I often go back to is, how did Americans vote for Donald Trump? I know what you may be thinking, Republicans may wonder why we voted for Kamala Harris. In no way is any politician perfect or the ideal choice, but there is a clear factor that determines who is the best fit. We have seen and heard what kind of man, Donald Trump is, and yet some cannot see over his bullshit.
He promised many things on Day 1 of his presidency, but mind you, those promises haven’t been fulfilled. He claims we have bad people in this country, and it seems he will deport anyone he comes across. He has no feelings whatsoever, and frankly doesn’t give a damn. This man is tearing families and children away from their loved ones. These so-called “criminals” are not even dangerous. These people build our roads, houses, and are trying to provide for their families. If anyone is dangerous and a threat to society, it’s him!
Now, I understand that all of this can be very unmotivating and brings up the feeling of hopelessness. Here is my advice and message for you.
We must stand up and fight every day. Express your feelings and assert your rights, and be proud. We, Americans, cannot let these dictators win. You can start calling your legislators, senators, and governors to express your views on local or national issues. We won’t allow the Kings to run our nation. Let them know they can’t take away our fundamental human rights, reproductive freedoms, Medicaid, and our healthcare.
As Kamala Harris said, “When we fight, we win!”
